The book includes excerpts from the theoretical works of the great German painter and graphic artist Albrecht Dürer including three printed treatises (and handwritten sketches for each), in which he writes about painting, proportions, the science of measuring and constructing geometric bodies, as well as the engineering art of fortifying cities .
In the original, Dürer’s treatises are very extensive and largely of a special nature, and are also replete with repetitions. The compilers of this collection tried to select the material in such a way that it would be possible to judge from it the structure of these works, the entire range of issues raised in them, the method of presentation, and, above all, Dürer’s views on art. In addition to texts, the publication contains reproductions of engravings, drawings and drawings by Dürer.
The text is printed based on the 1957 academic edition.
